6th December 2022 - Biggar High school Young persons' Forum
Our meeting on 6 December was the annual
Open Forum with the Captains and Vice Captains from Biggar High School. We were
joined this year by Captains Calum Smith and Jenny Craig, and Vice Captains
Elise Knights and Jamie McConkey, who were welcomed by the Vice President, Neil
Ingram.
The Students each gave us a brief introduction, explaining their roles at school
and their main interests as well as an indication of what they hoped to do once
they left school. They mentioned the importance of establishing links between
the different age groups in the school, and the use of mentoring to reduce the
effects of bullying and violent behaviour.
In the following questions
from the audience
they covered a range of subjects including the availability of after-school
activities, travel from outlying communities into Biggar, and whether they
expected to return to rural Scotland after going away to study and gain
qualifications.
We were impressed by their enthusiastic
approached to answering our question and how well they worked together.
Our final meeting of the year will be at
10.00 on Tuesday 20 December in the Municipal Hall, when there will be a
Christmas Quiz. Everyone is welcome
to attend. |
