15th November 2011 - Biggar High School Youth Forum.

President Jim Watt welcomed members, guests and visitors to a well attended Open Day on Tuesday 6th December.  The speakers were six senior students from Biggar High School who gave a confident and informative resume of their hobbies and interests and their hopes for future careers.

Emily Nicholl spoke of her interest in Netball. She was selected for the under 17 team for Lanarkshire who became Scottish Champions and is now in the under 21 Scotland team.

Katrina Dow told of being a member of the Guides and becoming a Queen’s Guide, achieving the Duke of Edinburgh Silver award and being selected to represent Scotland at the Jamboret in Belgium.

Adam Telfer with his interest in Rock Bands had organised a “Battle of the Bands” with fellow pupils at the Corn Exchange which raised an amazing  £3,000 in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Laura McCrander entertained with a beautifully sung song accompanied by Adam on his guitar.

Catriona  Ramsays interests are Art and Dress Designing and had organised the Annual Fashion show at the School  and worked in with the Biggar Little Festival.

Rachel Barr spoke of participating in the Triathlon at her Pony Club being Captain of the under 15s Scotland Team securing 2nd place in 2009.  Selected for the National Championship of the Pony Club and is under 18 Eventing Champion of Scotland 2010.

John Lindsay gave a well deserved vote of thanks. The next meeting is on Tuesday 20th December, 10am in the Municipal Hall.
