4th December 2012 - Biggar High School Youth Forum.

The President, Robert Kirkhope, welcomed a large number of members and guests to the club's Open Meeting.   He also welcomed students from Biggar High School who come each year to give individual talks about their hobbies, interests and the career paths they hope to follow.   On this occasion the students spoke about music, theatre, art and the field of social behaviour.   One student gave a foot-tapping rendition of traditional music on her violin and another demonstrated work from his art portfolio.   In addition to an insight into their personal aspirations, two of the students gave a talk on the project they had completed about the Holocaust.   Their research involved talking to concentration camp survivors and visiting auschwitz.   Their presentation was supported by photographs of their trip, the most poignant beign the piles of footwear and spectacles which once belonged to camp prisoners.   the girls spoke of how emotional it had been carrying out the project, particularly their visit to the camp.   Each of the students involved spoke with confidence and enthusiasm on their particular topic and the meeting was very much enjoyed by all.   Blane Duncan gave a vote of thanks on behalf of the club.   The next meeting is on December 18th when the subject will be 'The Churches of the Upper Ward'
