16th October 2012 - Rebuilding Broken Walls. David Taylor
The subject of the meeting was a talk/lecture/sermon given
by one of our members, a gentleman with very wide experience in many areas of
business from farming, manufacturing, food production and involvement with many
government agencies and programmes. David provided a rather all
embracing view in the management of business, in particular from a scientific
approach. He quoted Nehemiah as being the first example of a
scientific manager when he organised the rebuilding of the walls of Jerusalem
some 2500 years ago. the basis of his methods are largely still true
today. He went on to mention other leaders in the field of
scientific management, including David Dale and Robert Owen with their
remarkable project at New Lanark. Following such a wide ranging talk
on the principles of modern management, guest enjoyed a lively question and
answer session . A suitable vote of thanks was given by Robert
Ross.
