15th December 2015 - Beautiful Switzerland

John Peter

At the meeting held on the 15th December John Peter treated the members of Biggar Probus to a photographic trip around south eastern Switzerland.  John is a keen photographer who has an eye for some wonderful views and this talk demonstrated the beauty of the country in its summer glory.  Switzerland is a country of around 8 million people and the average income is about £50,000 per year making it not only wealthy but expensive for visitors.  Much of John’s trip followed the route taken by the Glacier express and we saw such places as Lake Lucerne, Zermatt and wonderful views of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Matterhorn mountains.  All along the route were pretty little traditional Swiss villages and, as it was summer, pictures of alpine flowers and upland meadows, just the thing to take our minds off chilly Scotland.  The trains were all exceptionally clean and modern and there were some lovely pictures of steam trains, one of which had originally been sold to Vietnam and was now back in Switzerland taking tourists on spectacular journeys.  Euan Douglas gave the vote of thanks.  The next regular meeting will be held on 19th January 2016 when there will be an Open Day to which all members of the public are invited.  The talk will be on the work of the Garvald Community.
